Key Responsibilities:
Design and Modeling:
- Utilize SolidWorks for the creation of designs and 3D models for both individual parts and large assemblies.
- Develop detailed prints, Bills of Materials (BOMs), documentation, and procedures with meticulous attention to detail.
- Emphasize concepts and designs that have the potential for repeatability and standardization, aiming to enhance efficiency, profitability, and minimize errors.
Engineering Analysis:
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate and optimize designs.
- Conduct engineering calculations to support design decisions, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid dynamics.
Prototyping and Testing:
- Assemble and functionally test designs to ensure they meet all required specifications and standards.
- Develop prototypes to test design concepts and evaluate performance.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with members of the Engineering, Machine Shop, and Assembly teams within a cross-functional environment.
- Coordinate with suppliers for sublet work and ensure designs meet quality and production standards.
- Communicate design intent and technical information clearly to stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and clients.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Document designs for product support and efficient development of successive product generations.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Project Management:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Track project progress and report on milestones and deliverables.
- Highlight production loopholes for improving efficiency.
Quality Control:
- Develop quality control checks in the existing production setup.
- Liaise with team members for improved coordination and workflow with the production department.
Customer Interaction:
- Travel to customers’ facilities as required to support design implementations and address any issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- High proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with GD&T, AutoCAD, and MS Excel.
- Capacity to use basic business software (such as Excel) and ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
- Knowledge of automation and control systems.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
